The Villas at Madison has a wonderful group of people who make
up its board of directors. On this page, you will find useful
information about them.

Ralph Cobb
President
Ralph was elected to the Villas Board of Directors in 2016.
He has lived at The Villas since 2012. Served as Fire Chief of the City of Madison for 16 years,
retired in October 2016. He plays with the Madison Community Band, and sings with
Southern Splendor Barbershop Chorus in Athens.
Since retiring he does some substitute teaching for Bob Jones High School,
James Clemons High School and Liberty Middle School.

Bette McClure
Vice President
Bette was appointed to the Board in October 2007 to fill the
remaining year of an unexpired term. In 2008, she was elected to
a three year term on the Villas Board.
She was born in Harriman, Tennessee and is a 1960 graduate of The
University of Tennessee. She was married that year to Don
McClure, also a UT graduate. They first lived in Chattanooga
where Bette taught fourth grade for one year. They then
were transferred to St. Joseph, Missouri with Don's job,
where she taught first grade for a year. After three years
and the birth of two daughters, they moved to Chicago for two
years. Next was a twelve year stay in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
followed by fifteen years in Jackson, Tennessee. During
those years, she was a substitute teacher, worked in a flower
shop, and with The Literacy Mission Volunteers in Jackson.
She spent most of her time with various volunteer jobs related to
schools and community service. When her husband retired in 1993,
they moved to Estill Springs, Tennessee. She was widowed in
1998 and moved to The Villas in March of 2003 to be near her
daughter and her family.

Ed Gaines
Secretary
R.E.(Ed) Gaines is a retired Civil Engineer. He and wife Ruth
moved to Madison in 1984 after the TVA relocated the Engineering
Support Projects to the Nuclear Plant sites, in this case,
Brown's Ferry NP.
They lived in Stone Ridge, which is located on Hughes Road across
from Discovery Middle School. He retired from the TVA in 1996 and
he and Ruth have enjoyed traveling, projects around the house,
and helping their two daughters, Mary Beth, who lives here in
Huntsville
Leah, who lives in Baton Rouge.
They are members of Asbury Methodist Church. Ed and Ruth moved to
the Villas in 2011 and live at 1064 Cathedral Circle.

David Frederick
Treasurer
David was elected to the Villas Board of Directors in
2016.

Al Renz
Member at Large
Al was elected to the Villas Board of Directors in 2008. He
has lived in the Huntsville area since 1993 and purchased a condo
in Phase II of the Villas at Madison when it was built in 2005.
He served as Treasurer of the Phase II Board of Directors until
the merger with Phase I in 2007.
Al is a native of St. Louis, Missouri where he attended
Washington University and received an engineering degree. After
serving 28 months in the U.S. Coast Guard, he returned to
Washington University where he received his Master Degree in
Management and taught for eleven years.
His career includes positions as Vice President and Treasurer of
Computmatix Inc., President of BRF Resources, Inc. President and
CEO of National Petroleum Corp. and Director of Business
Management with The Boeing Corporation. After retiring from
Boeing, he also taught for three years at University Alabama
Huntsville.
His wife is Marlene, also a native of St. Louis. They have two
sons who work for Exxon and Boeing, and a daughter
who works for the U.S. Corp of Engineers. They have six
grandchildren and will be married 52 years on November 29.
